Clara Brownell wins barn burner

UMATILLA — A barn burner of a fourth quarter gave the Clara Brownell Middle School A team a 30-26 win over Sandstone Tuesday.

After three low scoring quarters, the teams were tied at 15 at the end of three. Umatilla led 5-3 after the first period and Sandstone led 9-8 at the half. The final period was a different story.

Joel Dominguez led the Vikings with 12 points in the game, nine coming in the final stanza on three 3-point goals. Aaron Simmons had seven points and Aaron Garza five for the victors.

Tanner Smith led the game Desert Hawk eighth graders with eight points while Moises Ortiz added six.

Omar Garcia, Tommy Chen and Chase Root had four points each in the game.
