Buck freshmen continue to roll

PENDLETON - The Pendleton freshman baseball team defeated La Grande 8-4, 4-0 on Monday.

In the opener, Alex Doherty earned the win on the hill and went 1 for 3 at the plate with three runs scored, while teammate Taylor West went 1 for 3 with three RBI.

Jackson Huth tossed a two-hit shutout in the nightcap to earn the win for Pendleton.

Robin Mathews was 1 for 2 with an RBI double, and Jared Britton was 1 for 1 with two RBI to lead the Bucks in the second game.

Last Friday, Pendleton stopped Hermiston 7-1.

Pitcher Taylor West allowed four hits and went 2 for 2 at the plate for Pendleton.

Teammate Codi Warner was 2 for 2 with a triple.

Dominguez tops at tournament

HERMISTON - Blanca Dominguez of Pendleton placed first Saturday with 31 points in the Sagebrush Open Horseshoe Tournament.

Dominguez threw for an average of 30.8. Doug Bowen threw for an average of 33.1 for second place.

Wilson will speak at Saturday event

PENDLETON - Steve Wilson, a National Football League official for 11 years and a former Pac-10 official, will speak Saturday at a men's breakfast held at Roosters Restaurant.

The no-host breakfast buffet is open to all men.

Reyes picks up academic honor

WALLA WALLA - Jesus Reyes, a sophomore midfielder for the Walla Walla Community College men's soccer team, has been named to the Arthur Ashe Merit Scholar National second team.

Reyes, a graduate of Pendleton High School, was one of 22 minority athletes recognized nationally for athletic and academic achievements in helping his team win its first Northeast NWAACC title. Walla Walla finished 19-4-1.
