DUFUR - The Echo Cougars rocked the Dufur 8-man Classic Friday, rolling up a 48-6 win over the Spray Loggers.
Devin Christensen ran for 154 on nine carries, scoring a pair of touchdowns to lead the charge. Quarterback Andy McFarlane added 20 yards on six carries and two touchdowns of his own.
"The O-line took control of the game today," coach Norm Stewart said.
Mike Fisher dominated at defensive end, causing Spray quarterback fits with multiple sacks.
Ryan Ramos was the game's top receiver, making four catches for 108 and two touchdowns.
Though the game was a huge success, Stewart was mindful of next week's game at Tri-City Prep, which he said will be a much tougher opponent.
UNION 20, RIVERSIDE 7 - In Union, Riverside freshman Erik Carranza ran for 99 yards in his high school football debut but the Bobcats' long game beat the Pirates.
Union (1-0) put up all three touchdowns on passes of 25 yards or more and Riverside (0-1) couldn't answer back in its key third quarter possesion.
After Carranza scored a touchdown on a short run, the Pirates pulled off a successful onside kick and got the ball back in good position. However, the offense went four-and-out which coach Robin Graff called the game's turning point.
The Pirates shut the Bobcats out through the rest of the half, but couldn't get on the scoreboard.
Graff said it was an important first game for many young players, and said they're motivated to keep working.
