MADRAS - Hermiston shot better than 50 percent from the floor for the first time this season Tuesday in defeating Madras 70-55 in Intermountain Conference action.

The conference-leading Bulldogs (9-8, 5-1 IMC) hit 28 of 46 from the field and never looked back after establishing a 19-8 first-period lead.

"We had a good first quarter, built a comfortable lead and built on it," Hermiston coach Mike Royer said.

Sarau Morrison hit 15 of her 19 points in the first period to lead Hermiston. She did not play in the fourth period.

Sarah Von Arx and Jordan Crossley each added 13 points for the Dawgs. Shoni Schimmel made nine assists and five steals to go with her 10 points.

"We had good balanced scoring," Royer said. "Overall, we shot the ball really well."

The game featured the No. 2 (Schimmel) and No. 3 (Madras' Briana Stacona) scorers in the IMC. Stacona bettered her 12.6-point per game average with 16 to lead the White Buffalos (6-9, 1-5).

"We did a good job of slowing down Stacona," Royer said.
