PASCO - Blue Mountain Community College left the tying run standing at third base Monday as the Timberwolves dropped a 4-3 decision to Linn Benton at the CBC tournament.
The Timberwolves had runners at the corners with one out, but couldn't bring in the tying run. The final two outs were fly balls to center field.
"I was a good effort by us in the ninth inning,"
BMCC coach Brett Bryan said. "But we were just a little short.
"We had our chances; we just didn't execute."
Pitcher Zach Green took the loss despite pitching seven solid innings. Green gave up three runs - two earned - five hits and four walks. He struck out four.
"Once again we got another good pitching performance out of our start guy," Bryan said. "But this is the second game in a row we didn't play very good defense."
BMCC had four errors on the day.
BMCC (5-5) had six hits, as Kyle Jones went 2 for 4, and Ryan Bailey was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.
The Timberwolves will start another four-day tournament Thursday, competing in the WWCC tournament in Walla Walla.
