IONE - People in Eastern Oregon often feel like they have a hard enough time getting recognition from the rest of the state, let alone the rest of the country. So you can imagine Ione track coach Del LaRue's surprise when he learned he first won the Northwest District 8 Girls Track and Field Coach of the Year award.

Surprise came again, as shortly afterwards he found out he was named National Girls Track and Field Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations.
