DILLON, Mont. — Chris McGinnis-Parker finished off the single greatest season by an Eastern Oregon University running back on Saturday in the Mountaineers’ 42-20 defeat of Montana Western.

McGinnis-Parker totalled 164 yards on the ground, bringing him to 1,361 for the season and moving him past Kevin Sampson’s mark of 1,305 set in 2010.

Also setting a single-season record for EOU was wide receiver Jace Billingsley, whose six receptions gave him 69 for the year to pass Phil Nyby for the most receptions in a single season.

The Mountaineers (6-5, 6-4 Frontier Conference) forced Montana Western into four turnovers and were led on defense by Ryan Watson’s 13 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovered.

The Frontier Conference named Watson its Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his efforts.

EOU won four straight and five of their last six games to conclude the 2013 regular season.

Despite a No. 25 ranking in the final NAIA Coaches Poll, the Mounties did not qualify for the postseason.

Men’s Basketball

WESTMINSTER 73, EASTERN OREGON 66 — At Caldwell, Idaho, the Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday evening.

Tony Eackles Jr. led the way with 29 points for the Mountaineers. Kyllian Wood followed with 12 points and collected a game-high 14 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Trevor Phillips had four points, one rebound and one assist.

Blake Skidmore led Westminster with 21 points and Jordan Hamilton added 11 rebounds and seven points.

The Mountaineers (7-1) and Griffins (4-2) were tied at 7-all nearly eight minutes into the game before Westminster built a cushion it never relinquished.

Women’s Basketball

EASTERN?OREGON?69, SIMPSON?47 — At Redding, Calif., the Mountaineers concluded the Simpson Classic by defeating the tournament host on Saturday evening.

Brittney Newcomb scored a game-high 29 points to lead EOU to its fifth win of the season.

EOU led from the start and never trailed. They took their largest lead of the game with 3:41 left to play when a Maloree Moss free throw made the score 65-41.

Moss, of Hermiston, finished with five points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Volleyball

LA?GRANDE?— Eastern Oregon University junior Casey Loper was the overwhelming selection as the Cascade Collegiate Conference’s volleyball Player of the Year, the league announced Monday. She received six of a possible nine votes.

The 5-foot-10 middle hitter from Powell Butte posted dominating net numbers while leading the Mountaineers to a CCC-high 25 wins this season.

Loper was second in the CCC in hitting percentage (.350) and kills per set (3.55), and was third in blocks per set (1.07).

Also making the first team for the Mountaineers, which lost to Concordia in the CCC?championship, was junior hitter Stefani Sorensen. She was second on the team in kills this season with 3.40 per set.

Eastern senior Taylor Stewart made the honorable mention list.
