CALDWELL, Idaho — The Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team used a 29-7 run to close out the game and defeat Walla Walla University 76-67 on Friday afternoon in the Golden Rule Shootout hosted by College of Idaho.

Trevor Phillips and Deonta Edwards led the Mountaineers with 13 points apiece. Kyllian Wood collected a game-high 13 rebounds for EOU. Phillips, of Hermiston, added six rebounds and one assist.

Walla Walla built a five point lead going into halftime as the Wolves scored the last nine points of the half, and led 60-47 in the second half before Kalvin Johanson started the Mounties on their run.

Eastern (7-0)?took over the lead at 65-63 and never trailed again.

The Mountaineers return to action Saturday in the Golden Rule Shootout when they play Westminster College at 4 p.m.


CONCORDIA 3, EASTERN?OREGON?2 — In Caldwell, Idaho, the Eastern Oregon University volleyball team’s comeback fell shor against Concordia Friday evening in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships.

After the Mountaineers knotted the match a two sets apiece, Concordia finished them off 3-2 by scores of 21-25, 25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 15-9.

Eastern (25-6)?finished strong in the fourth set, stopping a 3-0 Concordia run to finish off the close win, but quickly fell behind 10-4 in the deciding fifth set.

Stefani Sorenson led Eastern with 15 kills, but at a .151 hitting percentage. That was still a higher percentage than both Casey Loper (14 kills)?and Taylor Stewart (12 kills).

Karly Stack had 56 assists and Jessalyn Smith had 42 digs for Eastern.

Melanie Miller was one of four Concordia players in double digits in kills, and led the team with 15.

Women’s Basketball

HOPE?INTERNATIONAL 83, EASTERN?OREGON 50 — At Redding, Calif., the Eastern Oregon women’s basketball team fell in the first round of the Simpson Classic on Friday.

No statistics or details from the game were reported by press time.

The Mountaineers (4-2) play tournament host Simpson University on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
