ASHLAND — A?pair of late goals lifted the Southern Oregon women’s soccer team past Eastern Oregon 2-0 on Wednesday in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships quarterfinals.

The Raiders broke a scoreless tie in the 62nd minute when Sydney Paulsen scorched the back of the net from about 20 yards out. Four minutes later Southern added an insurance goal by Chloe Welch after she took a cross from Julie Zamzow and beat EOU?goal keeper Kailey Moss from about 10 yards away. Zamzow assisted both of Southern’s goals.

The Mountaineers got a couple of late scoring chances but couldn’t get one in.

The Mounties fell to 9-5-1 on the season, but also recorded the second most wins in program history.


KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Their first back-to-back losses of the season dropped the Eastern Oregon University volleyball 14 spots in the NAIA?Coaches Poll, announced on Tuesday.

The Mountaineers checked in at No. 24 on the ninth regular season edition of the poll.

EOU?lost last week to Southern Oregon, 3-0 (20-25, 19-25, 23-25) and Oregon Tech, 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 23-25, 28-30).

Eastern Oregon (23-5) returns to action this weekend hosting Corban and Northwest in their final regular season games.
