The Mac-Hi boys’ soccer team got the news it was looking for Monday when star forward Oscar Flores was given the green light to play in today’s Class 4A state semifinal against Stayton.

Flores had injured his ankle in the team’s quarterfinal win over Yamhill-Carlton.

His return was in question but Mac-Hi coach Jose Garcia said Flores was able to do enough in a light practice Monday that the senior will start today.

The No. 1 Pioneers (17-0)?face possibly their toughest challenge of the season today in Oregon West Conference champion Stayton (15-1).

The Eagles are ranked No. 5 by the OSAA?and came into the final bracket as a No. 3 seed. They defeated second seed Phoenix 2-1 in the quarterfinals.

Also in action today will be the Riverside boys’ soccer team.

The second-seeded Pirates (14-1-1) advanced to the Class 3A/2A/1A semifinals with a win over Pleasant Hill that came down to penalty kicks.

The Pirates will play at top seed Catlin Gabel (14-0-2), which  is 9-0-1 at home.

The No. 1 Eagles defeated Oregon Episcopal 1-0 in the quarterfinals in a rematch of last year’s state championship — a game won by OES 1-0.
