PENDLETON - Former Pendleton High School softball coach Randy Crawford was named the Class 4A Softball Coach of the Year by the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association at a banquet May 29.

"Any time you get something like that it's a complete surprise," Crawford said.

Crawford announced his resignation as Buckaroos softball coach following the team's playoff loss to Century in order to spend more time with his family.

Each league in the state nominated a coach for the award that was given to Crawford.

Crawford said the award was a testament to the program, which has made the playoffs 18 years in a row, previous coach Terry Prouse and especially the players that have donned the Buckaroo green and gold.

"You can't get it done without the kids," Crawford said. "It doesn't matter how good of a coach you are if you don't have the players."
