SHERMAN?56, HELIX?31 — In Moro, the Helix Grizzlies played much better Saturday than in their loss to Central Christian from Friday. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, Saturday’s opponent was a very good Sherman (10-10, 7-2 Big Sky) squad.

Helix lost it’s 10th straight game in a 56-31 final.

Coach Livia Hegdal was excited with the improvement, but discouraged that Helix (2-17, 0-9 Big Sky) plays to its opponents’ levels. Against a struggling Central Christan squad, Helix played down.

Saturday, Paden Flerchinger scored 14 to lead the Grizzlies and Blythe Gabriel nearly picked up a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Sherman won the battle on the offensive glass that helped them take the game as well.

Hegdal said the girls’ defensive intensity is much better than it was early in the season and players like freshman Darion Burgess are starting to really understand how to read the opponents’ plays.

Helix hosts Ione on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in its next game.
