PENDLETON In pressure situations, the Riddle Irish depend on more than luck.
For the second game in a row at the Class 2A?girls tournament, the Irish have proven to have ice running though their veins in crunch time.
Riddle overcame a 44-30 fourth-quarter deficit and forced overtime in their fourth/sixth place showdown with Riverdale before eventually earning the 73-66 win in triple overtime.
Pele Gianotti hit a three-pointer with 15 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 50 and force the first overtime.
Riverdales Molly Christman tied the game in the second overtime with 26 second to play on a layup to make it 54-54.
In the second overtime it was a pair of Gianotti free throws that knotted it at 63 with 28 seconds on the clock.
Riverdale went up 66-65 on a Christman jumper with 3:21 to go in the third overtime but an Alex Rogers three-pointer put Riddle up for good a minute later.
Gianotti led Riddle with 36 points while Melino Gianotti added 13. Christman led Riverdale with 26 points while Makenzie Brooks added 13.
It was the first state trophy for Riverdale and the second for Riddle. The Irish also placed fourth in 1996.
