THE DALLES - The Hermiston A Heat split a pair of games Saturday at The Dalles Tournament, dropping a 6-4 decision to the host team and rebounding with an 8-6 victory over Canby in the nightcap.

The Heat were tied with The Dalles in the sixth inning, but The Dalles scored twice to take the victory.

"We've given some games away in the late innings," Heat coach Scott Depew said. "We had two errors and a walk to help account for those two runs."

Aaron Huxoll had a pair of doubles for the Heat and Kevin Verway and McLayne Bertsch each had a pair of hits.

The Heat had to go extra innings to defeat Canby, scoring four runs in the eighth inning to seal the win. Hermiston banged out nine hits in the game.

"We're swinging the bats a little bit," Depew said. "But it's the same guys getting hits."

Bertsch had three hits in the game, including a double, while Sergio Ambriz doubled and Derek Lete added a triple for the Heat.

Jordan Journot earned the win on the mound.
