Dear sports editor,

We are writing this letter to tell you about a little bit of magic that is happening right now in Hermiston - the Hermiston Swim Team!

Many years ago Hermiston had a huge swim team. It was "the place to be" growing up in our desert of Hermiston.

But our pool had to leave due to a magnificent High School that was built because of growth.

For the last two years a past Hermiston swimmer, Kevin Hamblin, has been coaching the Hermiston Swim Team. The team of 12 attended only two meets last year with some success.

We now have 24 swimmers who are working their fins off every morning from 6:30 to 8 a.m. The team has already competed at La Grande, Pendleton, and The Dalles.

Good representation and good results followed. All of the towns have literally embraced our return. Magic is happening!

We invite you to come down to the pool and watch these kids swim. There are four meets left of the season. We are asking all of you former and future swim families to step up and help us.

The Hermiston Swim Team will be hosting a dual meet on August 18. We need timers and lots of helpers to make our first meet back a splash!

We are working hard to get the Hermiston Swim Team back on the summer map. We have saved many dollars by getting some equipment donated. The City of Hermiston has generously been our sponsor for two years, and we are working diligently towards becoming our own club again.

As we step back into the world of competitive swimming, we need our old and new families to come out and help us begin HSC anew - come see the MAGIC!
