TUCSON, Ariz. Team Oregon was unable to get its offense going against Alaskas Lauren Syrup and fell 7-0 on Monday in the semifinals of the Little Junior Softball Regional Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
Syrup no-hit the batters from Triangle/Milton-Freewater and finished the game with nine strikeouts and one walk. She got seven groundouts as well with the help of a flawless defensive performance from her Alaska teammates.
The game was a rematch of an elimination contest last season, which also went to the girls from up north.
Team Oregon get will at least one more shot at Alaska, though, after they came back to defeat Northern California for the second time in the tournament on Tuesday night.
The girls brought plenty of offense to that game with 12 hits, led by Brooke Kralmans four and Colette Roberts three.
Oregon jumped out to an early lead and then held off a late push from Northern California to hold onto the 10-8 win.
Robert pitched five innings in the circle, striking out seven, and Makayla Kelly relieved her in the sixth and finished the game for the save.
Northern Californias Mackenzie Holt did get seven strikeouts but with Oregons hitters regularly putting the ball in play Northern California struggled in the field and had five players contribute to six errors.
Robert led Oregon with two RBIs and Jessica Lambert and Ali Schroeder each added one.
Against Alaska, Oregons Lambert started off with just as much success in the circle as Syrup, and only walked one in the game as well while striking out two.
But after it got on the scoreboard with a run in the fourth inning, Alaska took a commanding lead with six more runs in the fifth.
Leadoff hitter Taria Page hit a home run and Sierra Rosenweig added a double for Alaska. Each girl ended the game with two hits and two RBIs while Felila Manu also had two hits and an RBI.
Oregon will be hoping to turn things around against Alaska and even the two-year series at 2-2 starting tonight. Theyll face Alaska at 6 p.m. with a win forcing a second championship matchup on Thursday at the same time.
