UNION The Pendleton 11-12-year-old Little League softball all-stars opened the district tournament swinging and quickly put Milton-Freewater away on Monday in Union.
Pendletons hitters gave Katie Bradt 11 runs of support over the first three inning and she returned the favor by holding Milton-Freewater to one hit. She finished with seven strikeouts and three walks in four innings.
Kirah McGlothan drove in Pendletons first run with a double in the first inning and finished the game 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Kila Soloman (3 for 3, four RBI) and Sami Spreit also drove in runs during Pendletons first, and Carissa Cooley kept them rolling in the second with a two-run home run.
Cooley (4 for 4) added a pair of doubles and another RBI to her day. Aspen Garton also had a big day hitting, going 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI.
Pendletons next game is Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in Union.
PENDLETON 11, LA GRANDE 0, 4 innings At Union, of the 12 outs needed to defeat ??? on Monday, Sauren Garton got strikeouts for 11 of them to lead the Pendleton 9-10-year-old all-stars to an opening win at the district tournament.
Garton pitched a no-hitter, and also went 2 for 3 at the plate. Josie Wilson also was 2 for 3 and Celia Farrow was 2 for 2 with a double.
