PENDLETON — Lightning threatened Pendleton’s postseason primer against Baker on Monday, but the Buckaroos were able to squeeze in a 9-3 victory in five innings before the game was called due to weather.

Coach Tim Cary said it turned out to be a great game to head into the playoffs on, and Baker hit the ball well while giving Pendleton no extra outs on defense.

The Bulldogs opened the game with a 2-0 lead after a pair of runs in the top of the first innings, but each time Baker scored the Bucks answered in their half of the inning.

Pendleton (19-7) strung together hits for a pair of runs in each the first and third, then gave themselves a cushion with three in the fourth.

Ellie Richards (3 for 4) and Payton Hergert (2 for 3) led the offense, and each had doubles.

Kiersten Murphy and Lauren Richards combined in the circle with Murphy getting the start and the win after exiting with a 4-3 lead.

Pendleton, which won its second state title last season, won’t play again until the first round of the 5A playoffs on Wednesday, May 27. Their opponent will be determined during the play-in round later this week.

MAC-HI 11, THE DALLES 0 (5 innings) — At Milton-Freewater, a fielding error kept Colette Robert from collecting her third perfect game of the season in Mac-Hi’s playoff tune-up on Monday.

Robert struck out 13 and walked none in the no-hitter, and also was one of three Pioneers to hit home runs.

Abi Biggs hit her eighth if the season to drive in three runs, and senior Stefani Copeland hit her second in as many games after going her entire career without a home run until this past weekend.

Robert finished with three runs driven in, and Copeland was 2 for 3 to drive in four.

Mac-Hi coach Nicole Christian said the Pioneers’ 10 hits were spread throughout the lineup, which brought her power hitters to the plate with runners on in most situations.

The Pioneers (24-1) end the regular season on an 18-game winning streak, and hope they won’t cool off while they wait to make their postseason debut.

Mac-Hi, which won its first softball championship last season, will begin its title defense on Wednesday, May 27 against an opponent to be determined in the play-in round later this week.
