SEATTLE - Two teams rich in baseball history come to Safeco Field during the upcoming homestand as two charter members of the National League face the Seattle Mariners in six games beginning today.

The Cincinnati Reds (weekend series June 18-20) and Chicago Cubs (midweek series June 22-24) were charter members of the original National League ,which was formed in 1876. Both teams have each made only one prior trip to Seattle: the Cubs in 2002 and the Reds in 2007.

The Mariners are planning to send their top two starters to the mound in the first two games of the homestand. Lefty Cliff Lee will face Reds' righthander Johnny Cueto in the opener today, followed by righthander Felix Hernandez taking the mound on Saturday against Sam Lecure. Both games will start at 7:10 p.m.

The Cincinnati Reds are in a race with the St. Louis Cardinals for the top spot in the NL Central Division, featuring their league-leading offense that ranks first in batting average, home runs, runs, slugging and on-base percentage.
