EUGENE — The No. 10 Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team went into the holiday break on a sour note as it was upset on the road at New Hope Christian College, 77-76, on Thursday.

The Deacons’ (1-6) Quincy Alexander hit a three-pointer from near half-court with 0.2 seconds remaining in regulation to give NHCC the final advantage. The basket came right after Travares Peterson hit a lay-in to give the Mountaineers (6-1) a 76-74 lead with five seconds remaining in the game.

The Deacons led 42-31 at halftime, after three lead changes and three ties in the first half.

The Mountaineers were led by Peterson’s 18 points and will have a week off before traveling to Lewis and Clark in Portland on Nov. 26
