HERMISTON — The athletics pipeline that runs from Hermiston High School to Lane Community College this year continued Thursday with three more Bulldogs signing National Letters of Intent to attend the school this fall and play sports.

Hermiston girls’ basketball players Heidi Walchli and Gabby Heehn were joined by soccer forward Breana Berger for a group signing party at Hermiston High’s athletics office Thursday afternoon. Last month a trio of Hermiston cross country and track runners — Abby Johnston, Efrain Jaime and Eduardo Juarez — signed LOIs to become Titans in the fall.

Lane Community College is a two-year school located in Eugene.

Walchli and Heehn were the only two seniors on this season’s Hermiston Bulldogs basketball team that finished third at the Class 5A state tournament, also played in Eugene in early March. It was Hermiston’s best state finish for girls’ basketball since a second placing in 2008.

Walchli was named the Player of the Year by the East Oregonian later in March after leading the Dawgs with 10.8 points per game and finishing second and third in rebounds (6.3) and assists (2.7), respectively.

Berger and the soccer playing Bulldogs  shared the Columbia River Conference title last fall with Hood River Valley after a 9-5-2 campaign, including a 5-1 mark in league play. The Dawgs would lose in the first round of the 5A state playoffs.
