LA GRANDE - Eastern Oregon University's Justin Alsterlund rushed for 126 yards on 28 carries and Scott Jensen threw for 150 yards as the Mountaineers gained their second victory in as many weeks with a 20-13 victory over the visiting Willamette Bearcats.
Eastern used Alsterlund as the main workhorse in a 53-carry ground attack of 163 yards. Willamette outgained Eastern on the ground by running for 189 yards.
Defensively, Eastern kept the Bearcats pinned down for most of the game as the Mountaineers recorded 12 tackles for losses of 50 yards, including four sacks of Willamette quarterback Cameron Walton.
Senior Jason Flowers spearheaded the defensive effort with eight total tackles, four tackles for losses, two sacks and a fumble recovery.
Last week's NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, Vernon Smith, managed six tackles and a pass deflection.
Eastern struck early as it took its first series of the game down the field on a seven-play, 40-yard jaunt that ended with EOU taking a 7-0 lead on a Scott Jensen 1-yard keeper.
The Mountaineers struck again with 7:37 left in the first half as senior Damien Johnson ran the ball in from 3 yards out for the 14-0 lead.
Eastern ended the first half with a nine-play, 64-yard drive that resulted a Bloom 33-yard field goal to give EOU a 17-0 lead.
Eastern's Bloom struck again at 10:42 mark of the third quarter when he hit a 39-yard field goal.
Eastern will face Montana Tech next Saturday at 1 p.m. from Community Stadium.
