ADAMS - Milton-Freewater could really only get its offense going in one inning, but what an inning it turned out to be.

Milton-Freewater turned a 5-1 deficit into a 12-5 lead and defeated Baker 12-6 to advance to today's baseball championships of the District 3 Little League Tournament.

Milton-Freewater, which has one loss, will need to defeat Pendleton twice to advance to the state tournament. Today's game begins at 9 a.m. A second game, if necessary, would be played Sunday.

Baker looked to be in control in the early going as Michael Ho scored on a wild pitch and Jesse Brown singled home Ty Everson to give Baker a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

Ho scored again in the second inning and an RBI single by Justin Durflinger gave Baker a 4-0 lead after two innings.

Milton-Freewater got on the scoreboard in the third inning after Seth Alden walked and Garrett McEvoy doubled. Pablo Grimaldi followed with a grounder to short and Alden raced home when the throw to first base was made.

Baker extended its lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the third inning when Ho singled home Mike Reidy, who had doubled.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Milton-Freewater scored 11 runs in the fifth inning.

Alden got things going in the Milton-Freewater fifth with a walk and McEvoy reached on an error. An RBI double by Grimaldi was followed by a two-run single from Daniel Garcia as Milton-Freewater cut the Baker lead to 5-4.

Patrick Sheets reached on an error and Troy Kessler was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A walk to Ryan Bullock tied the score and Milton-Freewater took a 6-5 led when Baker couldn't come up with Alden's infield blooper.

McEvoy drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-5 and Grimaldi followed with his second double of the inning, which cleared the bases and made it 10-5. Garcia singled home Grimaldi and came home to score on an error.

Baker was able to score once in the fifth, but could get no closer, as McEvoy went all six innings for Milton-Freewater.
