OSAA boss joins national board

INDIANAPOLIS — The National Federation of State High School Associations announced its new officers for the upcoming school year following its summer meeting in Nashville, Tenn., on July 12.

Tom Welter, executive director of the OSAA, also was approved for a four-year term on the NFHS?Board of Directors.

A native of Oregon, Welter joined the OSAA in 1995 and has been executive director since 2001.

Welter also has served as president for the Oregon Athletic Directors Association, and received the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. He is a member of the Central Catholic High School Hall of Fame in recognition of his 20 years of service to the school’s athletic programs.

Among his previous service to the NFHS, Welter was a member of the Sanctioning Committee (1995-98), Football Rules Committee (1995-2004) and the Strategic Planning Committee (2008).

Delaware’s Kevin Charles, who heads the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association, will serve the NFHS?as president for the 2012-13 school year. He is the 53rd president of the NFHS.
