LA GRANDE - A pair of local boys basketball teams gave solid performances at the La Grande AAU tournament this past weekend.

The eighth-grade Pendleton Bucks boys team won the tournament championship after defeating Nyssa, 68-63, in the championship game. The Bucks defeated the Hermiston Rebels, 67-46, to open the tournament and got past the Pendleton Roughriders, 57-52, in their second game.

The Bucks roster consisted of Shae Schimmel, Matt Johlke, Robert Thorne, Jace McGrath, Shann West, Colin Lewis, Tucker Whitten, Kyle Humphreys and the coach was Chuck West.

The Williams Pipeline sixth-grade team took fourth place after losing to Baker City, 35-33, on a shot at the buzzer.

Jon Mitchell led the team in scoring with 10 points, Jared Standley and Torin Garza scored eight points each and Joseph Baum added seven points.

Coach Bill Morrison said David Morrison, Brycin Riley, Zack Journot and Acel Wyland played hard on defense, while Daniel Morrison was unable to attend due to an illness.
