MILTON-FREEWATER - McLoughlin posted a pair of tennis victories in a chilly season-opener against Stanfield Monday.

The girls won 5-2 while the boys took a 4-0 win in a match with no doubles play.

Mac-Hi's Dorian Garcia beat Lucy Alvarez 8-7 in the girls' No. 1 singles while Stanfield's Erica Gehrke and Jessica Carillo teamed for an 8-0 win over Maria Rincon and Vanesa Rubio in the No. 1 doubles match.

For the boys, Anthony Martinez beat Cody Primmer 8-1, Kevin Ochoa beat Eddy Rojas 8-0, Michael Nelson beat Tyler Botts 8-4 and Braden Harwood beat David Nichols 8-5.

Harwood and Ochoa got their first wins of their high school careers Monday.

For the girls, the Tigers' only other win was Joy Brammer over Ashley Doherty in the No. 2 singles match 9-7. The Pioneers' Ana Buena Salazar beat Maritza Ibarra 8-0 to finish singles play.

In girls No. 2 doubles, first-year player Becky Carter teamed with Cat Garza to beat Michelle Zamudio and Ladonna Mendiela 8-2. Rounding out the day, Kirysa Koch and Rachel Smith beat Breezy Ibarra and Vanessa Solis 8-0 and Ashley Doherty and Monica Hernandez beat Judith Santiago and Genesis Chavez 8-2.
