Heppner gears up for CBC schedule

HEPPNER - The Heppner Mustangs tuned up for conference play Tuesday with a 17-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-23 nonleague victory over Riverside.

The Mustangs (2-2 overall) were led by Shanna Rietmann, who had 15 kills.

Katie Britt swung the momentum of the match for the Mustangs with 10 service points along with two aces, according to Heppner coach Terri Gentry.

Gentry also credited the defensive efforts of freshman Megan Orr.

Riverside's Suzzi Sherman had nine kills, Jessica Burns made eight kills, and Tess Haertling had eight kills and eight blocks. Briggete Campos was 15 of 15 behind the service line.

Grant Union tops Stanfield

JOHN DAY- The Stanfield volleyball team fell to Grant Union 25-17, 19-25, 25-12, 25-19 in a nonleague match Tuesday.

Jessica Erwert led Stanfield with eight kills and Amanda Morris contributed five aces for the Tigers.

Stanfield (0-2) will open Columbia Basin Conference play at Heppner on Saturday. The Tigers will also face Sherman and Culver.

Paredes leads team to victory

BAKER CITY - The Weston-McEwen TigerScots' parlayed consistent play into a 25-13, 23-25, 25-18, 25-23 nonleague win Tuesday over Baker.

Kayla Paredes led the TigerScots with 13 kills, 12 blocks and two aces. Kayla Johnson and Jordan Alford each had 10 kills to help the TigerScots' cause.

TigerScots setter Susan Bonifer had 23 assists and setter Darcy Thompson added 21 assists.

Grizzlies continue to roll

PILOT ROCK - The Helix Grizzlies took advantage of several errors for a 25-13, 25-12, 25-14 win over Pilot Rock in a nonleague volleyball match Tuesday.

"Helix is a very good defensive team. They do a great job of covering the floor, and we didn't come ready for that," Pilot Rock coach Robin Deter said.

The Rockets are 7-4 overall.

Echo falls to Walla Walla

ECHO - Echo surged early against Walla Walla, but ultimately came up short, losing 23-25, 26-24, 25-14, 25-15 in nonleague play.

Rachael Jackson led the Cougars with four kills and five aces. Linsey Hackett made three kills and seven aces and Cierra Eby had three kills and was a perfect 12-for-12 on serves.

Sherman sweeps Condon

CONDON - The Condon Blue Devils fell 25-16, 25-14, 25-12 to Sherman County in a nonleague volleyball match Tuesday.

Condon coach Laura Harson said the Blue Devils served 80 percent as a team with 10 kills and five blocks.
