WALLA?WALLA, Wash. — Bend golf pro Brandon Kearney lapped the field to take the one-round lead at the Northwest Open Invitational on Monday at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Wash.

He shot a nine-under par 63 that included two eagles, three two’s and one bogey. Nine players are tied in second at four-under par, a group that includes three amateurs. Ideal conditions also allowed 44 players to post sub-par scores in the first of three rounds.

Senior Oregon Open Invitational winner Jeff Coston was seven strokes back at two under.

Pendleton Country Club is represented by two players and amateur Matthew Corley shot a one-over 73 while PCC golf pro Tyler Brooks was at seven over.

Wildhorse Golf Course, host of the Senior Oregon Open, had three golfers in the field led by course pro Mike Hegarty and Clint Ables at three over. Amateur Harper Jones III was at four over.

Play continues today with the second round after which the field will be cut for the final round.
