PORTLAND - At least one team from Oregon is assured of reaching the third round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

Perhaps to cut down on travel expenses during these tough times, the selectors paired Portland (17-13) against crosstown rival Portland State (22-9) in a first round matchup at the Stott Center.

The winner of Thursday's contest will then head to Corvallis to play Oregon State (19-11), which received an opening-round bye. The date for the second-round game has not been scheduled.

Portland and Portland State met early in the season, with the host Vikings downing the Pilots 72-56 at the Stott Center.
