UNION - The Riverside Pirates wrestling team captured the Union Tournament Monday, defeating seven teams to return to Boardman with the first-place trophy.

The Pirates tallied 204 points, with Elgin/Imbler taking second with 158, followed by Pine Eagle (142), Union (138), Grant Union (86), Wallowa (75), Powder Valley (55) and Enterprise (26).

"We wrestled really well," Pirates coach David Boor. "We had a few kids wrestling up a class because they ate too much Christmas dinner."

Dustin Swindler won the 152-pound class for Riverside's only champion, but the Pirates received second-place finishes from Jon Parrish (145) and Carlos Carranza in the heavyweight class and third-place finishes from Tucker Tovey (119), Andy Baker (130), Jode Coil (135), J.R. Seewer (160), Gabe Hansen (171) and Sonny Phipps (215). Jeff Jenkins finished fourth in the heavyweight class.

"We won a lot of matches," Boor said. "We didn't get a good seeding so we wrestled the top kids early, but out of seven matches for third/fourth place we won six of them."
