WOODBURN - Hermiston's Sandstone Middle School captured their third state wrestling title in a row Saturday, beating out second place Crook County by 40.5 points.
Three wrestlers took the top spot for Sandstone and six total placed in the top six.
An estimated 100 teams took place in the tournament.
Tyler Berger won his 80-pound championship match 9-0, Joey Delgado squeaked out a 2-1 win in the 100-pound final and C.J. Dircksen won the 110 championship by fall.
Taylor Parks ran into some awful luck and came away with sixth after winning his first two matches. In his second match, Parks injured his knee and though he was able to hold onto the win in that match, he had to forfeit the rest of the way out.
Abraham Rodriguez grabbed second for Sandstone, falling 5-3 in the 115 final and Sidney Britt placed third with a 5-3 win in his last match of the tournament.
Coach Ken Rodriguez said that even though his team came in with 12 wrestlers, they couldn't be too confident in bringing home the title because they won it with only eight last year and according Rodriguez, any team with at least six wrestlers had a strong shot to win it all.
All but one of Sandstone's wrestlers scored points toward the title.
Milton-Freewater's Central Middle School brought back fifth place
