HERMISTON Sandstone Middle School hosted the Hermiston Elks Hoop Shoot on Saturday, Nov. 23 for basketball marksmen ages 8-13.
Ninety-two Hermiston-area grade schoolers qualified for the competition through their elementary schools own competitions held earlier in the year.
Winners came from all over, too, as no school could claim more than one champion in the six divisions.
In the 12-13 age group, Kole Keller of Clara Brownell Middle School won the boys title and Jada Burns of Armand Larive M.S. topped the girls. In 10-11 competition the winners were Dylon Watson of Sunset Elementary and Jayden Ray of Desert View. The winners in 8-9 were Enrique Carrillo of West Park Elementary and Maya Meza-Rodriguez of McNary Heights Elementary.
First place winners in each division have qualified to compete in the Northeast District Hoop Shoot to be held on Sunday, Dec. 15 at Sandstone. The shoot will start at 1:30 p.m., with registration starting an hour prior. Earlier this year, three area youths made it all the way to the Oregon Elks State Hoop Shoot in Salem.
Hermiston Elks Lodge No. 1845 would like to thank the many volunteers and Hermistons physical education teachers for keeping the competition running smoothly.
