Schimmel leads Cardinals to win


LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women’s basketball team defeated Rutgers 56-45 on Saturday to improve to 5-3 in the Big East and move into a tie for sixth place in the 16-team conference.

Cardinals freshman Shoni Schimmel turned in another solid game with 12 points, six assists and five rebounds.

Schimmel is second on the team in scoring with 352 points, a 16-per-game average. She also averages 5.6 assists and is one of just three players to start all 22 of the Cardinals’ games.

The Cardinals’ game against West Virginia will be televised live on ESPN2 at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13.
