HERMISTON?— Hermiston’s Crystal Schmidt was named 2010 Columbia River Conference Player of the Year in volleyball this week.

Schmidt’s prestigious award came in her second year of varsity volleyball. Her main sport is track, but the all-around athlete helped the Bulldogs win their first conference championship since 1999.

The high-flying junior middle blocker slammed 183 kills on the year on 599 attempts with 91 percent accuracy. She averaged 3.45 kills per set, and contributed 171 digs, 196 blocks (42 solo) and 10 assists this year.

Earning first-team CRC accolades for Hermiston were Maloree Moss, Gracie Flyg and Cheyanne Lawson and Schmidt.

After disposing of Sandy in four games on Tuesday, Hermiston will enter the round of 16 state playoffs versus Marist on Saturday at 4 p.m.
