PENDLETON - It was a high-scoring affair as the Pendleton Buckaroos took a 83-79 victory over the Crook County Cowboys in Intermountain Conference boys basketball Friday.
Seven players scored in double figures and the 3-point goals were flying, as each team made seven.
Jerad Short led the Bucks with 27 points and pulled down a team-leading 10 rebounds.
The Cowboys took the early lead in the contest, leading 21-15 at the end of the first quarter. They were led by Ben Timchak's 25 points.
In the second quarter the Bucks put up 31 points, with point guard Matt Gundlach taking control of the tempo. Gundlach finished with 22 points.
"Matt did a tremendous job running the team," Bucks coach Jeff Quinn said. "We had a great second quarter and we're very excited about this win."
The third quarter was played relatively even but the Cowboys had a few scoring runs in the final period.
In the final minute, Josh Cochran sank three successive free throws to seal the win for the Bucks. Cochran finished with 11 points.
In their last meeting, the Cowboys' Thomas McCarthy torched the nets for 30 points and made eight 3-pointers.. This time Short had the assignment to guard him.
"Jerad had an exceptional game, holding McCarthy to eight points," Quinn said. "Jason Post also had a great rebounding night."
The Bucks host Summit today.
