PENDLETON - The Blue Mountain Community College volleyball squad played Treasure Valley to five games Wednesday, but lost 24-30, 30-20, 27-30, 30-27, 7-15 in a NWAACC match.
Hermiston graduate Megan Bergstrom led the way for the BMCC Timberwolves (0-1 NWAACC) with 14 kills.
"Megan hit the ball well," BMCC first-year head coach Amber Evans said. "We have a lot of young girls and we made some errors in the final game."
Evans also credited the serving play of Jenn Stanton and praised the efforts of Kelli Koppel.
BMCC welcomes nine freshman to it's volleyball squad along with coach Evans, who graduated from Pilot Rock and played basketball at BMCC for two years.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to coach," said Evans who is also the BMCC girls basketball coach. "We have some good local talent and several of the girls will also play basketball."
Bergstrom along with Natasha Vizina graduated from Hermiston last Spring and Vizina earned Intermountain Conference honors her senior season.
"Natasha and Megan bring a lot to the court for us," Evans said.
Freshmen Lacey Seely of Helix and Megan McCabe of Ione are expected to see time as well.
"Everyone on the team will contribute," Evans said.
Also on the squad are sophomores Cierra Mann (Springfield), Stephanie Sherman (Cambridge, Idaho) and Koppel (Rosalia Wash.) and freshmen Shelby Cullen (Astoria), Tiffany Meadors (Molalla), Stanton (Manhattan, Mont.) and Desiree Staple (Bonners Ferry, Idaho).
