PORTLAND — Umatilla coach Tim Lee is already pondering what next year will look like for his girls’ soccer team.

Having dropped a Special District 2 playoff 2-1 to Portland Adventist on Tuesday, the Vikings finished their season 2-6-2, 1-3-1 SD3.

“Overall, I’d say it was a good season,” said Lee. “We have a lot of youth and talent coming up that will hopefully shine in the next couple years.”

Had Umatilla prevailed, its four seniors’ would have extended their playoffs versus Corbett for a No. 2 seed in the state tournament. As things panned out, the?Vikings stared down a 1-0 halftime deficit.

Leticia Trujillo netted the only goal for Umatilla midway into the second half off a punt-assist by goalkeeper Beremice Perez. The equalizer was negated on a winning goal by Portland Adventist with 10 minutes left.

“We outplayed a lot of teams we lost to this year,” Lee said. “We just couldn’t equalize or get the ball into the net.”

The four seniors leaving Umatilla girls’ soccer were Alejandra Garcilazo, Berenice Perez, Cathrine Routson and Naomi Castonan.
