LA GRANDE — Pendleton and Riverside had their share of grapplers fare well at the 25-team Muilenburg Invitational on Saturday.

The tournament, comprised of teams from Oregon, Washington and Idaho, saw Riverside star Hans Rockwell win a title.

The Pirates finished fifth in the team category.

"We did some good things today," Riverside coach Dave Bohr said. "We're still in the learning process."

Pendleton freshman Morgan Holcomb won the 126-pound title by way of a pin, and three other Buckaroos reached the championship match.

Pyper McCallum (182), T.J. Hancock (152) and Tristan Holcomb finished the two-day tournament runners-up in their respective weight classes.

The pleasant surprise was Morgan Holcomb, just a freshman, who won his first-ever varsity tournament.

"We were pretty shocked," Pendleton coach Fred Phillips said. "To go out there and get a pin to win your first varsity match is pretty impressive."

Pendleton is in action again on Saturday when they travel to the Liberty High tournament in Hillsboro.
