COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - The Pendleton Young Guns took second place in the Western Regional Tournament out of a field of 23 teams in the 14U tournament, but opted out of the National Tournament birth the placing afforded.

After a very late night Saturday, the girls finished the week with four consecutive games Sunday without much rest in between. Out of the four games, the Young Guns won three and lost the championship game Kimberly, Idaho, last year's regional champs.

The title game was the eighth of the tournament for the team, who worked their way through the losers bracket to get a chance at first place.

"We are extremely happy with our group of girls," coach Randy Crawford said. "They placed in every tournament they played in this summer... This has been a very successful softball season for the Young Guns."

Catcher Amanda Plotzke led the Young Guns with a .423 batting average during the tournament, and Alex Hillmick was 4-0 from the circle with 30 strikeouts.
