Youth wrestlers hit the mats

BOARDMAN — The Pirate Wrestling Club hosted the first ORWAY meet of the season, held at Riverside High Saturday.

Nearly 300 young grapplers attended the competition, sanctioned by the Oregon Wrestling for America’s Youth organization.

Teams came from all over Eastern Oregon and Southeast Washington for the meet, which is divided up into age and weight groups. Each wrestler will compete against everyone in his pool.

The Pendleton Youth Wrestling Association squad made a good showing at the meet, placing eight individual class winners. In Division 1 (age 5-6), Dawson Tremper, Zeke Reiner, Lyle Soaring Eagle and Jack Lieuallen won their weight classes.

In Division 2 (7-8), Tysin Burns, Isaac Urbina and Luis Ortega won for the PYSA while Caleb Tremper was a Division 3 (9-10) winner.

The Hermiston Youth Wrestling Association got weight class wins by Chase Elliot (D2), Cyrus Shaver (D3), Joey Gutierrez (D4), Jake Palmer (D4) and Andy Wagner (D5).

Irrigon was represented with wins by Hunter Hoffman (D1), Justin Patton (D2) and Josue Aguilera (D4).

The Minutemen (Milton-Freewater) had three class winners. Brandon Cheney, Justin Gilmore and Josh Torres all won in Division 4 (11-12).

Aristotle Rockwell was the only class winner from the host Pirate club, winning in Division 5 (13-15).
